Sofia -The Moroccan cinema industry will be the star of "Sofia Middle East and North Africa film" festival, a major cinema event held in the Bulgarian capital from January 15 through February 02.
Five Moroccan movies will be screened during this event.
"Morocco's gains in terms of freedom of expression and creation and the Moroccan authorities' support to the cinema industry, in addition to the world class festivals held in Morocco, are evidence to the impressive progress achieved by the Moroccan film industry over the last years", said Morocco's ambassador to Bulgaria Latifa Akharbach.
The diplomat who was speaking during the festival official ceremony noted that Moroccan film-makers produce over 20 movies and 80 short movies annually and hold, therefore, the 3rd rank in the African continent after South Africa and Egypt. But, she went on, a new generation of directors are better incarnating the dynamism of the Moroccan cinema and bringing their contribution to the promotion of Moroccan cinema.
Other Arab countries taking part in this festival include Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Qatar and Jordan.
