Madinah, Rabi'II 8, 1435, Feb 8, 2014, SPA -- The Principality of Madinah said that 15 persons are killed and about 130 persons are injured due to a fire broke out at a hotel in Madinah.
In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Principality added that it received a notification at 2:33 p.m. today where the teams of the Civil Defense dealt with the situations.
'More than 700 people of different nationalities were staying at the hotel. Preliminary indications suggest that those killed died of suffocation,' the statement added.
The Civil Defensen’s teams evacuated a nearby hotel as a precaution as firefighters battled the blaze.
'Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Madinah Region, followed the incident and ordered the relevant bodies to provide all potentials for dealing with the fire and injured people,' the statement stated.
The Principality's statement concluded that the blaze is controlled by the civil defense at 5:00 p.m. and the reasons of the fire are under investigation.
