Date : 30 05 2014

Rabat - Minister of justice and liberties, Mustapha Ramid, reiterated on Thursday the Moroccan State's strong resolve to fight against all forms of torture.

Speaking at a meeting with human rights-defense non-governmental organizations on investigations mechanisms in cases of torture allegations, Ramid said the State is determined to fight against the phenomenon, and rejects torture.

He also denied any link between the State and torture cases, explaining that responsibility in these cases belongs only to the person who committed torture.

"It is a criminal act that should be punished", he insisted.

The minister also surveyed the legal measures taken by Morocco to face torture and torture allegations, citing, in this context, the ratification of the optional protocol of the international convention against torture and the projected establishment of a national independent mechanism for torture prevention.
